Shenzhen Tech Experience: Using AI Translators & Creating AI Videos in China
China is well known for its technology, and my friend Kelly — a Korean travel vlogger — recently traveled to Shenzhen to see just how advanced it is. Shenzhen is one of the world’s top cities for AI and new tech. In this post, I’ll share Kelly’s experience of using an AI translator in a coffee shop and experimenting with AI video creation.
Kelly Using an AI Translator in a Coffee Shop
When Kelly walked into a local coffee shop in Shenzhen, she quickly realized that the staff didn’t speak much English. Since she doesn’t know Chinese, she decided to use an AI translator to help her order.
She asked (through the translator) what the most popular drink was, and the barista recommended an iced Americano. Kelly was impressed by how smoothly the conversation worked out. Even though they couldn’t speak the same language directly, the staff was very friendly and welcoming.
Since she was traveling alone, Kelly used the translator again to ask a few personal questions — like where the staff was from and if they had ever visited South Korea. They suggested she visit Shanghai someday and even recommended a raw coconut latte. She tried it and loved it — sweet, creamy, and with a nice coffee flavor.
This showed how AI translators can make travel much easier by bridging communication gaps.
Kelly’s Visit to an AI Company in Shenzhen
Next, Kelly visited an AI company in Shenzhen to see what kind of projects they were working on. Since she’s always curious about new tech, she wanted to try creating an AI-generated video.
Her first request was simple: make a video of someone eating Korean food. The AI quickly generated a mukbang-style video with dishes like bibimbap, kimchi, and tteokbokki. Kelly was amazed at how realistic it looked — almost like a real Korean food broadcast.
Then she took it a step further, asking the AI to generate an image with her own face. The result showed her as a pilot, and it looked surprisingly real. Kelly was fascinated by how easily AI could create new versions of herself in different roles.
Final Thoughts on Kelly’s Experience
Kelly’s trip to Shenzhen gave her a first-hand look at just how advanced AI technology in China has become. The AI translator helped her connect with people in everyday situations, while the AI video tools showed her how simple it is to create content with just a few instructions.
Her experience proves that even if you don’t speak the same language, you can still share stories, make friends, and connect with others — all thanks to AI.
Would you use an AI translator if you were traveling abroad?
